Tandav Row: Allahabad HC Lucknow Bench Extends Interim Protection From Arrest To Amazon Prime Head Aparna Purohit
Amid the ongoing investigation against Amazon Prime's web series 'Tandav' starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, the Allahabad HC Lucknow bench has extended interim protection from arrest to Amazon Prime head Aparna Purohit
Amazon Prime’s political drama series ‘Tandav’ starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub landed in controversy from the time it premiered on the OTT platform. Two FIR’s have been lodged against the series- one at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow and the other at Rabubpura police Station in Greater Noida. The FIR registered in Lucknow also named Aparna Purohit Amazon Prime's India head of original content Aparna Purohit, among others. The UP Government had told the Allahabad High Court that the makers of the web series have been booked for portraying ‘God’ in a very derogatory manner.
Now, according to the latest update, Live Law reports that the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court extended interim protection from arrest to Aparna Purohit, in connection to the FIR lodged against her in Lucknow. While adjourning the hearing of Aparna Purohit’s anticipatory bail plea, a single bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh extended the protection from arrest until the next date of hearing, which will be on April 6.
As per reports, Aparna Purohit had appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the second time on March 8 to record her statement. She had also appeared before the SIT on February 24. She has been asked to appear before the investigation team again on March 18.
In January, director Ali Abbas Zafar had issued an apology on social media on behalf of the cast and crew of Tandav, amid the outrage against the web series. “The cast and crew did not have any intention to offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion, or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead. The cast and crew of Tandav take cognizance of the concerns expressed by the people and unconditionally apologize if it has unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments,” it read.
